[comp.emacs] File completion with SunOS automounter doesn't work

Recently, we upgraded to SunOS 4.1.1 and we enabled automounter
everywhere.  Now we find that file completion doesn't work anymore.
This is particularly causing a lot of grief for one our users who uses
dired extensively.

I remember seeing some notes about this issue in this newsgroup, but
in the time honored net tradition, I didn't bother to save the
messages.  Can some kind soul out there forward any possible solutions
or workarounds to me?
