[comp.emacs] meta key redefined?

haozhou@acsu.buffalo.edu (Hao Zhou) (01/26/91)

I am just curious about if it is possible to redefine meta key in
emacs. For example, define ALT key as the meta key.

Any comments will be highly appreciated.

Sure you can......in PC Emacs you just UNBIND-KEY <esc>
then BIND-TO-KEY META-PREFIX <whatever key you want>

so, in standard key mappings for MicroEmacs, it would be;

   <esc>   ^K            <esc>

   ^^^^^^^^^^ ---- this is UNBIND KEY

then

   <esc>    K           <whatever key you want>

I don't suggest the ALT key, because that is a whole
series of supported function keys that use it (you
can have F1   F2    ^F1    ^F2   shift-F1   ALT-F1   etc)

tilde's (~) are pretty useless, how about using that??
