Hi all, I am running GNU emacs on a Decstation 3100. Until last week, we ran with the DECwindows window manager. This week I am trying out MOTIF. Only now emacs does STRANGE things. First, let me point out, I have customized may of the keybindings and invoked 'enable-arrow-keys' so that I might use my terminal to the fullest. Under both DECwindows and Motif, I have set the DECterm up to have a VT220 id, in 'Vt300 mode 7 bit controls' - this is because there is NO 'vt200 mode'. In my .cshrc file, I 'set term = vt220', so that upon entry to emacs, it knows where to find 'enable-arrow-keys'. this all seemed to work ok under DECwindows. Now, under MOTIF, emacs SEEMS to start out ok, but then it weirds-out. a 'next-end-of-line' puts the cursor in the middle of the line somewhere....The cursor gets out of position with where emacs THINKS it is... The screen gets scrambled every few keystrokes. It looks like many characters have been eaten, but a C-l proves that wrong. It is VERY disconcerting and almost impossible to work with. I have tried calling up the 'commands' menu in the DECterm window, and doing 'Reset Terminal', but that appears to do nothing. It certainly does not fix the problem! Even getting out of emacs alltogether, and going back in, doesn't work. Only starting a NEW DECterm works, and then emacs goes strange after a very short time anyway... Does anyone know of a setting or problem with this? Short of going back to DECwindows, is there anything else I can try? I am a recent convert to unix, so REMEMBER that you are talking to the (mostly) uninitiated.... Any and all suggestions are welcome! -Natalie ================== Natalie Prowse Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory, nat@drao.nrc.ca National Research Council, (604) 497-5321 Box 248, Penticton, BC, Canada V2A 6K3
