We are running GNU Emacs 18.52 on a Sun 3/470 with SunOS 4.0.3. With users in Emacs, a system message was sent to everyone because another file server was being shut down. There was a file system from the second machine mounted on the 3/470 but noone (certainly not anyone who was in Emacs) was using it. As soon as the message was received, the Emacs sessions all locked up. The system was still running fine but the Emacs sessions all had to be killed to get any response from them. All the users were connected to the Sun via an ethernet terminal server and noone was on the console so I'm not sure if the same thing would have happened there or not. Similarly, a couple of weeks ago, when a file was being pulled off a backup tape and the SCSI bus was tied up long enough that client nodes got NFS failure messages, Emacs sessions were locked up as well, even after the NFS came back up again for all other processes. Has anyone else seen a similar problem? ---- Bruce Anderson Scientific Atlanta - GPD (619) 679-6125 13112 Evening Creek Dr. South ...!sagpd1!banderso San Diego, CA 92128
