It appears that my problems with gnu emacs under X were caused by the fact that I am missing the lisp/term directory. If someone would be so kind as to mail me the files in that directory, I would appreciate it very much. Please mail an offer so my mailbox does not die. I am using gnu emacs v17.64. -Israel -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UUCP: {amdcad,decwrl,hplabs,oliveb,pur-ee,qantel}!intelca!mipos3!pinkas ARPA: pinkas%mipos3.intel.com@relay.cs.net CSNET: pinkas%mipos3.intel.com

I've just started playing with GNU Emacs v18.49.8 under X v10r4 (?) under SunOS 3.2 and 4.2 BSD Unix, and could use some help. I would like to know: a) What kind of neat things are you people doing, in general? I'm looking for interesting/useful functions, hints on usage and setting defaults, etc. b) What values are defined for the variable x-switches? I can't seem to get my settings to take effect. c) What values are defined for emacs in .Xdefaults? Are there any other environment variables to worry about besides TERM and DISPLAY? d) If I've missed anything, please tell me about that too. But a) is pretty catch-all... I hopefully anticipate a fairly response, and will post a summary accordingly when the furor dies down. Regards, Silver. "It takes a big man to honestly admit he's big." See lisp/term/x-win.el.

Either check the manual page in etc/emacs.1, or "use the force, read
the source" and see x_term_init() in src/xterm.c.

Speaking of X and Emacs, does anyone know how to get GNU Emacs to start up as an icon? I like to have an Emacs up automatically, but it gets annoying to not have it automatically iconize...
