[comp.emacs] Starting up emacs

TGW%SYBIL@RTI.RTI.ORG (Tim Waters - 5958) (03/31/91)

Whenever I startup emacs for the first time with a filename to edit
as a parameter (emacs test.txt), emacs loads the file loadup.el and
puts me in that buffer????? Once the emacs subprocess is
established and I attach to it later with a filename as the parm it
gets the file and puts me in that buffer...I'm new to emacs so maybe
I just don't understand the command line switches...?

The real problem with this is when trying to make VMS mail use my
spawned emacs session as the editor via the logical MAIL$EDIT. If
I'm replying to a msg and including the text of the message
(REPLY/EXTRACT) or forwarding the message, I never get the text of
the message into emacs. Just sending works fine. I suspect these
two problems are one in the same.

I've turned on verify etc. during KEPTEDITOR.COM but its been no
help to me. Any ideas at all welcome!

Thanks,
Tim Waters

[NOTE: I'm running emacs 18.57 on VMS with a change to SYSDEP.C so
that I can use emacs as my mail editor]
