I am looking for information on the topics stated below. Any response is greatly appreciated. If there is any substantial response, I'll summarize to the net. This way your response will benefit everybody. Subjects: 1) Programmable editor needed 2) Comparison between Crisp and Emacs 3) Public domain language sensitive editor kit? 1) As part of a integrated programming environment for a special language (for simulation; SIMSCRIPT II.5) I am looking for a (preferably public domain) editor with roughly the following features: - has a full programming language (like Emacs, Crisp, ...) and full access to the OS - is multi-file, multi-window (uses termcap), one-mode, etc. (just your standard good editor) - supports menus (top menu bar, pop-up) - allows e.g to merge files from compile errors into source (otherwise extra window) - can read from the edit buffer (e.g. "word under the cursor") - is very portable, runs on virtually all unix platforms, maybe even VAX - is mature The editor has to talk to a database system (on the side), and support spawning/monitoring multiple processes. I understand there is Emacs and Crisp. I have to admit I am not very familiar with either of them. This leads me to my second question: 2) How do Crisp and Emacs compare w.r.t the requirements stated above? If you have in-depth experience with either: Do you like it? Do you think it can do the job nicely? Are there even other editors around that could do the job? 3) What is the status/availability of (preferrably PD) language sensitive editor kits? Any pointers and experiences are greatly appreciated. Please e-mail to jurgen@cacilj.cts.com. I'll summarize to the net. Thanks.
