[comp.emacs] scrolling

pfeiffer@irit.irit.fr (Daniel Pfeiffer) (04/26/91)

GNU Emacs scrolls up or down by a screenfull with M-v and C-v. But
when you add a prefix arg it doesn't scroll that many screenfulls,
only that many lines, which is generally much less than a screenfull.

I find this counterintuitive and generally not what I want. This is
all the more questionable since on most terminals these commands get
bound to <Page Up> and <Page Down> (if available).

I'd rather have them scroll that many screenfulls, and have a
different command for scrolling by lines. Such a command exists in
many view-like modes (RET), nevertheless the screen scrolling commands
(SPC and DEL) duplicate this to me undesirable behaviour.

I have made the two-column minor mode (was bilingual) that I posted
yesterday work as I suggest above. Which do YOU prefer? Flames and
opinions please!
