[comp.emacs] Emacs and terminals - HELP

Hello World!

I`m running a couple of Sun workstations here, 3/80 with SunOS4.0.3.
I recently installed some newer version of emacs.

Connected to the Suns are some older terminals, type Dec VT320 in vt100
emulation mode and Tatung TVT-4200D in ADDS ViewPoint emulation.
Using the appropriate termcap entries for those terminals (and also
trying the always present vt52 emulation) all of them fail running
Gnu Emacs, MicroEmacs and some older proprietary version. No problems
with other programs - vi, nn, irc etc. run fine.

BTW, the symptoms are the same for both types - some readable characters
between masses of upside-down question marks (for the vt320) or pound
signs (for the tatung).

What can I do against this ? Thank you in advance

  Patrick

And again... Looks as if I didn`t play hard enough the first time.

Well, somehow all emacsens seem to insist to change the terminal line
to 8bit, no parity. This confuses the terminals.

The remaining (not-so-interesting-for-me) question is:
Why does emacs think he`s smarter?
