I was doing an epochdump on my 11/70 (2.8BSD), and got an error message that said "bread: this should not happen" along with some numbers (block 0, etc). What causes such a message? I gather from the message that the dump program is astonished. -- Jeff Percival (jwp@larry.sal.wisc.edu)

The message you got means that you have a disk problem. It may be a bad spot on the disk. If that is the case, you can use prep -a to get rid of that bad block. (find out what you are getting rid of first, so you can restore it later). If it is more than a bad block , you may need to re- initialize the disk, and start over. In a worse case you may need to replace the entire drive. -- Valerie Grinder (DEFENSE DEPOT MEMPHIS TENNESEE) 2163 Airways BLVD Memphis Tn 38114 901-775-6849 AV 683-6849 UUCP: osu-cis!dsacg1!ddmtg1!vgrinder
