[comp.bugs.sys5] /etc/magic with execute?

qbarnes@urbsdc.Urbana.Gould.COM (11/19/88)

With all the discussion on "/etc/magic", a question I've had for a long
time came to mind. Why is the file's permissions set to "-rwxr-xr-x"
on distribution? Is there any good reason why the file should have
"execute" set?

The usual disclaimer stuff.

No. It has mode "rw-r--r--" in SunOS.
