[net.records] The Legend of the USS Titanic

CSvax:Pucc-H:ab3@pur-ee.UUCP (10/14/83)

David@varian asked about this tune, and I thought the reply
might be of genral interest, so here it is...

The title is as above, and appears on the album
"Remember the Wind and the Rain", by Jamie Brockett. It was issued
around 1970 or so ( I can check for exact date, label, if you're
interested) and is very much out of print. Brockett has one other
album I am aware of -- "Two".

The chorus you are thinking of is:

"It was midnight on the sea,
	The band was playing
	'Nearer My God to Thee',
Fare thee well, Titanic, fare thee well.
Now, they wouldn't let Jack Johnson on board,
They said this ship don't haul no coal,
Fare thee well, Titanic, fare thee well."

The track is about 15 minutes long, and has the entire story of the sinking
told with, shall we say, a different point of view...an excerpt:

"Up the gangplank come the first mate, with his Mass Marvel comic
books, his two change' of BVD's, and 497 1/2 feet of rope. And the captain,
he say '497 1/2 feet of rope? Whaddaya do wit' that?' And the first mate
say 'I just carry it.'"
