[comp.bugs.4bsd] Another example of slightly weird mail prompting behavior

brnstnd@kramden.acf.nyu.edu (Dan Bernstein) (11/27/90)

Normally mail prints the To: and Subject: lines before you begin typing
your reply. But when the original subject is blank, it merely prompts
for the subject and leaves off the To:.

I don't see any documentation for this behavior. It would seem more
logical to just leave off the Subject: line if it isn't there, and to
print To: in any case.

When I have to manually route a reply (through a UUCP host, for
example), I can usually type r to reply, then ~h to edit the To: line,
and I still have the original To: to glance at. But when the original
subject line is blank, I have to press an extra return to get past the
Subject: prompt, then ~h and four returns to see the To: line, then
another ~h to edit the To: line.
