To: murray@cs.strath.ac.uk Subject: Good AI Survey Book The book: Understanding Artificial Intelligence, by: Henry C. Mishkoff, published by Howard W. Sams & Company, a division of MacMillan Inc. (4300 West 62nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46268 USA) seems to have about the emphasis and level that you describe. You may want to check into it. Here in the U.S., I got it for about $15. It was written for industry audiences more than university students, but you may consider this a plus, judging from your "application" emphasis. In addition to a high-quality typesetting, it has a bibliography and glossary in the back. It's 250 pages. (NOTE: I have no vested interest in whether or not the author sells a single copy.) - Mark Goldfain (ARPA: goldfain@osiris.cso.uiuc.edu)
