National Research Council of Canada - Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering requires a Research Officer (two year term) Duties To participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in applied research and development in advanced robotics. A joint project with the Laboratory for Intelligent Systems is underway to develop an autonomous mobile robot for home and health care applications. This mobile platform will respond to voice commands, have an obstacle avoidance capability, and be able to interact safely with humans. It will contain an on-board multiprocessor computing environment to support the required intelligent sensory and control functions. Qualifications The candidate must have a recent M.Sc or Ph.D in Electrical or Computer Engineering specializing in advanced system technology. He/she must be self motivated and imaginative with a demonstrated practical research ability in both hardware and software design and development. A good foundation in software engineering and C programming are desirable. Familiarity with knowledge based system development tools and experience in sensors and robotics would be an asset.
