Would anyone who attended S. Dreyfus' public talk on connectionism at U.C. Berkeley (Friday, 1/29) give a summary? S. and H. Dreyfus (brothers) are Berkeley's "loyal opposition" to AI work in the 'GOFAI' tradition (Haugeland's Good Old-Fashioned AI, based on symbolic/logical manipulations). Their assessment of the neural net pre-symbolic paradigm should have been interesting. thanks!
