Emotions are more basic than language; horses, for example, have what certainly appear to be emotions, but are not particularly verbal (although see Talking With Horses, by Henry Blake). It may be fruitful to research the idea of emotions such as fear being useful in the construction of robots. I am working in this direction, but it will be some time before I have results. I would like to hear from others contemplating serious work in this area. John Nagle
