The gyro is powered by 6 AA cells, and is supposed to last 3 hours on a set of batteries. When the batteries die, the binocs revert to a pair of usable but non- stabilized glasses. They are advertised in the West Marine catalog for $5400.00. Correction: to quote the catalog, that should read "*ONLY* $5400.00." :-) The specs: Magnification: 10x Obj. lens dia.: 40mm Brightness: 70% Field of view @ 3280': 285' Waterproof: Resistant Focusing: Individual Weight: 4.6 lb Of all the binoculars in the catalog, the Stabiscope has the highest magnification, smallest objective lens, lowest brightness, narrowest field of view, highest weight, and highest price. Of course, it's also the only one with gyros. If you are interested, the address of their main store is West Marine Products Box 6303 Santa Cruz, CA 95063 To order by phone, the number outside CA is 1-800-538-0775. The catalog number for the Stabiscope is 320770. DISCLAIMER: I don't have any relationship at all with Fujinon. I don't even own a pair of their binoculars. Yet. My only relationship with West Marine is that I went into their Seattle store once to buy some nylon line. 73, John Opalko (N7KBT) McCaw Cellular Communications Seattle, WA uw-beaver!tikal!mcgp1!jgo
