The field of composition theory has recently started to come into its own. Many people in it are trying to incorporate theories, findings, and methods from various fields. I was excited to see a book on language and linguistics and the implications for teaching composition of those areas. Unfortunately, I discovered that by language it simply means "interest in style." So, I am asking the readers of these groups. Do you know of someone who has tried to apply theories, findings or methods developed in linguistics, cognitive science, or artificial intelligence to teaching composition? Any names or references, however vague, would be appreciated. Sincere thanks, Trish Roberts
