Question 1: Does anyone know why formatting an eagle on a VAX 8600 takes so much longer than on VAX 780? On the 780: SET CLOCK FAST MASSBUS Fujitsu 2351 eagle (404M) attached to an Emulex controller 4.2BSD boot floppy format program using severe burnin pattern, 48 passes about 12 hours formatting time On the 8600: SET CLOCK FREQUENCY HIGH MASSBUS Fujitsu 2351 eagle (404M) attached to an Emulex controller 4.3BSD distribution tape format program (/sys/consolerl/format) using severe burnin pattern, 48 passes about 48 hours formatting time! Question 2: Has anyone used a clock setting of 60Mhz for the clock setting on the 8600? Someone from DEC told us that it would run "a lot better" at 60Mhz. 60Mhz was not one of the six crystal settings. There were two unused settings (X4 and X6). Also, why is the HIGH setting associated with the 53Mhz setting and not the 56Mhz setting? Daniel Trinkle <trinkle@purdue.edu> Computer Science Department Purdue University ----------
