How about this simple explanation: Human beings (and animals etc.) exist because they can survive. They survive because they 'fit in' (Darwin). Their actions should be such that they keep existing. This means: eat, drink, sleep (for individual survival), and make love (for survival of the species). Also social co-operation is useable to make the chances of survival (of the indivi- dual and the species) bigger. So the individuals must be driven to perform the above actions. Hunger, thurst and sleep drive you to eat, drink and sleep. A pretty girl/boy makes you want to make love. Etc. Extend it yourself to other social interactions. So feelings come first. Thought is mere finding out how to satisfy the feelings. -- Frans van Otten Algemene Hogeschool Amsterdam Technische en Maritieme Faculteit fransvo@htsa.uucp
