I'm not sure this belongs in this newsgroup, but here goes.... I was talking to a friend of mine about speech pathology and graphing the sounds that voice would produce. I mentioned that a lot of what she was describing was very similar to the work being done in voice recognition and speech synthesis. Her discussion was far more qualitative than the speech/voice work I've seen in the computer field, but we also discussed whether speech pathologists and computer scientists had ever worked together. She said "not often enough" and that it explained why computer synthesized voice is so artificial sounding. So the questions: What kind of work is being done in either speech synthesis or voice recognition in conjunction with speech pathologists? Are there any speech/voice programs (especially in the NY/NJ area) that do have speech pathologists working together? Please post or write. If people write back, I'll summarize all mail I get. -- Sam Saal ..!attunix!saal Vayiphtach HaShem et Peah HaAtone
