Although general issues of social responsibility and academic issues in the humanities are underrepresented on the net, the issue of cross-posting is also a recurrent concern. While trying to read comp.ai postings (at 1200baud) I was startled by a post-to-everybody note re:the world, politics and all and everything. Sometimes one may in fact need to cry, perhaps not "fire", but "stop" in a crowded lecture hall,however...etc. etc. "net-police"-NO, net-responsibility,-YES.
