The recently posted announcements have the 1991 IJCAI in Australia, and the 1993 IJCAI in France. I thought the rotation system called for the 1993 conference to take place in North America. Does anyone know why the rotation system of North America/non-North America was changed? tyg tyg@caen.engin.umich.edu

The rotation system for IJCAI is still in place. The rotation period has been extended so that now every third IJCAI (every sixth year) will be held in North America. IJCAI '95 will be held in North America. The IJCAI Board of Trustees decided to do this for several reasons. Primarily, we wanted to acknowledge the fact that the world of AI is now more international that it was in its early days. Requiring the premier international conference for the field to be in North America every second time was no longer appropriate and reflected, perhaps, a certain North American chauvinism on our part which we decided to offset. -- Alan Mackworth mack@vision.cs.ubc.ca
