I am planning to choose the topic of "Engineering Optimization" for possible AI applications in that area. Specifically I would be interested in Batch Scheduling and Productivity Planning, but I am also open for suggestions. My objective is to try to integrate heuristic methods with algorithmic procedures (or formal mathematical tools) in a domain. I've a hunch that AI would be very useful here, as most often the tools are highly specific (i.e. the system to be optimized, the assumptions, etc.) hence inflexible and as far as I know there is a little consideration of uncertainty. If anyone heard of this kind of research through journal articles/technical reports/other print media or has done similar research, I request from him/her pointers. BTW, I am doing this for a term paper, but I am very serious about it. Trust me... Thanks in advance, and please reply to me. --murthy-- "What can the fiery sun do to a passing rain cloud, except to decorate it with a silver lining?"
