[net.unix-wizards] >8Mb memory on VAX 11/785 running BSD4.2

thompson@dalcs.UUCP (Michael A. Thompson) (07/25/86)

<more memory than I know what to do with>

We just went from 6Mb to 12Mb memory on our VAX 11/785 and
when I went to make the mod of changing that constant in
/sys/vax/locore.s the system would hang just before it would
normally print that message about automatic reboot in progress or
just after the autoconfigure. Does anybody out there have any
ideas about what's going on? Has this happened to anybody else?
				Thanx in advance.

Indeed yes. I have in the past posted instructions for updating
a 4.2BSD kernel for more than 8M of memory. Rather than repeat
it now, only two months later, I will instead *mail* it to those
interested. (Having been through this before, I carefully saved
the instructions, this time.)
