[comp.ai] Dekleer et. al VS Iwasaki et. al

  (Ref:  AI-journal) Dekleer and Brown seem to have a different 
  understanding of Causality in device behavior compared to the 
  views of Simon and Iwasaki.

  My understanding is as follows:

  Simon etal:
   Causality is inherent in the structure of the device.
   Simon's approach is based on ordering of variables 
   in the structural equations given the influence of the 
   environment(through "exogenous variables").  

  Dekleer et al:
  Causality is evident only from the behavior of the device.
  In other words, causality is seen only when the inputs are 
  specified and propagated through the system.

 What is the general feeling about these ?
 I agree with the Simon's idea of identifying causality from 
 the overall structure of the device.
