I have been asked to give a talk at the 1990 CODATA (Commitee on Data for Science and Technology) conference on Expert Sysyems in Data Analysis. I remember that a few years ago, there was a bit of flurry about AI and Statistics and perhaps there may have been other articles on AI and data analysis. While I have a certain view of what AI can do for data analysis, to the extent possible I'd like to review at least some aspects of previous thinking on this subject, so if anyone has any pointers/references to conf proceedings/survey artiles, etc., I'd appreciate hearing about them. Thanks in advance. B. Chandrasekaran, Laboratory for AI Research Ohio State University Columbus, OH 43210 614-292-0923 Email: chandra@cis.ohio-state.edu

I would also like to know of any papers, books, etc. on this subject. I have not before had an interest in AI & statistics, but an upcoming project would be more doable (I hope) by adding capabilities in this area.
