[comp.ai] Babylon system

usc@gmdzi.UUCP (Uwe Schnepf) (12/07/89)

Because there have been several requests for the Babylon system, I would
like to summarize some facts about it:

Babylon is a hybrid expert system development environment which has been
developed at the German National Reserach Center for Computer Science (GMD)
in close cooperation with many other institutes and companies. It provides
frames, production rules, Prolog and constraints to build expert systems.

Babylon has been implemented in Common Lisp on different computers
such as Symbolics, Sun (with very basic user interface only), Vax,
IBM PC, Mac, TI Explorer etc. and is available with most of its
source code. The current version (version 2.1) can be purchased from:

VW-Gedas
Pasqual-Str.11
1 Berlin 10
West Germany

The price is:

- for IBM PC and Mac: DM 200.-

- for Vax, Sun, Symbolics etc.: DM 500.-

English documentation will be available by the beginning of next year and
will be published as a book: The AI workbench BABYLON - an open and portable
development environment for expert systems.

Some basic information on the system itself can also be obtained from the
address above.

Babylon is currently under redesign and will be available as a commercial
product in spring 1991. It will be implemented in Common Lisp using
X-windows and OSF/Motif.
