[comp.ai] Request - AI Applications on Network Management

lippolt@dnlunx.pttrnl.nl (Ben Lippolt) (12/12/89)

Next year we'll start a research project on the applicability of
AI-techniques (in particular expert systems) to network management
tasks. We're mainly interested in fault localisation and recovery (i.e.
analysis of alarm messages), but we also might look at configuration
and planning of networks. The goal of this project will be one or more
demonstration systems.

We're interested in pointers to work in this area (articles, books, reports,
proceedings, etc). What are the labs of other telecommunication companies
doing in this area? Are there any systems available in this area which we
could use as a basis for our work (prototypes will do, preferably public
domain)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

I've enclosed a previously posted reply to this query:

There is a special issue of IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in
Communications, June '88, on the topic of "Knowledge-Based Systems
for Communications". The first article is "Expert Systems in
Network Management - the 2nd Revolution".
There are some good papers in the issue (including
a coauthor's and mine!)
