In (NY Times) news reports last month on the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing, it was said that otherwise-unspecified "AI techniques" were used to track down a suspect. They are using an expert system (and database interface) to view the large amounts of information about 'terrorists' they have on file. To do this manually would be quite a task, the rest is classified. There are a few 'vague' articles published in the newspaper about this system (OBRIII), citations can be sent to those interested.
