[comp.ai] AI in Pan Am Lockerbie investigation

othar@ernie.Berkeley.EDU (Othar Hansson) (01/17/90)

In (NY Times) news reports last month on the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing,
it was said that otherwise-unspecified "AI techniques" were used to
track down a suspect. Any idea what this might be alluding to?

Please email responses, as I can't keep up with the comp.ai posting rate

They are using an expert system (and database interface) to
view the large amounts of information about 'terrorists' they
have on file. To do this manually would be quite a task, the
 rest is classified.

There are a few 'vague' articles published in the newspaper
about this system (OBRIII), citations can be sent to those
 interested.
