I need pointers to information regarding Pandemonium, a theory about letter recognintion. A running C or Lisp program in the Public Domain would be excellent. Corcoran, Pattern Recognition. Penguin, 1971. ===================================================== Selfridge's Pandemonium (p. 109): Demons 'shriek' corresponding to closeness to input pattern. 1) Allows computer to choose most useful features. 2) Allows features to be examined simultaneously. 3) Allows feature analyzers to present analogue output to decision maker. X decision demon XXXXX cognitive demons XXX computational demons XXX data or image demons When correct response is made: a) Features examined by computational demons are given more or less weight. b) Some demons are rejected, others take their place. c) Overall reorganization by gradual accumulation of evidence from feedback. ================================================== Barney Pell Computer Laboratory University of Cambridge phone: (0223) 334622 e-mail: bdp@cl.cam.ac.uk Life is a metaphor for GO. ==================================================
