Discussion on "The Chinese room" is a large chunk of the activity on comp.ai. I have saved some of the most interesting articles, and the resulting files are now something like 600K long. Somebody suggested once the creation of a comp.ai.chinese-room newsgroup, but it was probably never intended to be taken seriously. Nevertheless, maybe it is not such a bad idea, but... Would there be any interest in splitting off this discussion and other related subjects of a more philosophical nature, the nature of AI, whether AI is "possible", the philosophy behind the Turing test etc ? The name of the group might be comp.ai.philosophy or something like that. If you have any opinions on the subject, please send me a reply. If the number of those agreeing with the idea is larger than the number of those not wanting a change, I will post a formal "call for discussion" followed by a "call for votes", according to the guidelines. -frisk -- Fridrik Skulason University of Iceland | Technical Editor of the Virus Bulletin (UK) | Reserved for future expansion E-Mail: frisk@rhi.hi.is Fax: 354-1-28801 |
