[comp.ai] Need sources on Expert Systems

nhaus@eagle.wesleyan.edu (09/18/90)

I am presently a senior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. I am starting
work on a thesis on expert systems, which is a challenge because our comp sci
department includes NO-ONE experienced in the field, and there are no courses
offered on the subject. So, I'm looking for sources and help in two areas:

1) Basic and standard references of ES- eg, texts which are used as standards
in the field and give a good, up-to-date delimitation of what is expected from
ES, as well as standard examples of ES systems.

I need these because, basically, I have to teach myself as much as possible
about ES before the end of October.

2) The most recent developments in ES- sp. articles and people which are at the
forefront NOW. Our library subscribes to _Artificial Intelligence_, but beyond
that sources are scarce; but, if I have the names of journals and articles, I
can get them from Yale.

The general thrust of this thesis is deriving a theoretical framework for an
ES which will INTERACTIVELY generate a knowledge and rule representation. Any
specifics along these lines will also be greatly appreciated.
