CAIA-91 WORKSHOP CALL FOR PARTICIPATION Software Methodologies for Real-Time Intelligent Systems February 25, 1991 Fontainbleau Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida Sponsored by Pilot's Associate Program Cockpit Integration Directorate Wright Research and Development Center Wright-Patterson AFB, OH in conjunction with 7th IEEE Conference on AI Applications (CAIA-91) Fontainbleau Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida February 24 - 28, 1991 The Pilot's Associate is a knowledge-based decision-aiding system being developed to support tomorrow's single-seat fighter pilot. The program, funded by DARPA and managed by the Air Force's Wright Research and Development Center, was initially an application for emerging technologies from DARPA's Strategic Computing Initiative. Early progress allowed a re-direction of the program from an early 21st century fighter aircraft to a mid 1990's fighter application. The nearer-term focus has added emphasis to the challenge of transitioning Pilot's Associate functionality into the restrictive airborne environment of current or planned service aircraft. Many support technologies still lack sufficient research necessary to fully develop, deploy, and maintain a real-time knowledge-based system like Pilot's Associate, and are beyond the scope of present work. The goal of this workshop is to bring together interested participants to discuss current, innovative research in the support of real-time intelligent systems. This workshop will focus on two specific areas: knowledge-base design and knowledge partitioning for real-time applications, and verification and validation of intelligent systems. One hope is to stimulate future research in these support technology areas. The workshop is scheduled for one full day with attendance limited to 25-30 active participants from government, industry, and academia to allow adequate time for discussion and interchange of ideas. Perspective participants should submit a 500 word abstract indicating active research or a valid application interest in the topic area, and a brief history of relevant experience. This information will be used to select participants and structure workshop discussions. Please submit two copies of all materials by November 15, 1990 to Capt Sheila Banks, WRDC/KTA, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433-6553. Points of Contact: Capt Sheila B.
