I am an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toledo. My research group is actively involved in developing software for use in chemistry, in particular in molecular modeling. We have a number of current projects, some of which utilize expert systems and/or knowledge bases, and some which utilize neural nets. The problem is a lack of funding for students, post-docs, and technicians to do the programming. We have VAX/VMS, DECstations running ULTRIX, Apollo workstations running Domain 10.2, a Sun 4/260 for our current hardware. We are expecting our department to buy a Stardent 3000 in the next 2-3 months. We have Prolog, VAX Lisp, available as software. I am looking for a company that might be interested in supporting the software development, both with money for personnel support and, if they have a particular AI shell or program, with their software. Most of the things we are working on could be commerciallized and would be of significant interest to the chemistry community (i.e. they could be profitable). If there are any interested parties, I would be interested in opening a dialog concerning my ideas, programs, and needs. Douglas A.
