I'm trying to find the title and authors of an AI book that I
read some time ago.
The book was co-authored by two people. One of them had a
name like 'Donald Mitchie' or something like that. The name
of the book could have been 'Machine Intelligence'.
It was a paperback, and had a dark cover with some
unrecognisable picture on the front. It contained some
examples of machine generated poetry, and had some glossy
pages in the middle with examples of computer art.
It had an example of a monkey who had a physics book and a
pair of cutters and he had to try and cut some bananas down.
The book also spoke of some situations where it would be
neccesary to lie to robots, because that would make them more
efficient in their work.

Well, I'm not sure if this is any help or just a red herring. Donald Michie has written several books in AI. The two that seem to match are either The Knowledge Machine: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Man by Michie and Rory Johnston (1985) or On Machine Intelligence (1974, second edition 1986) by Michie. Why stop at these. I think that there are 13--16 MI volumes, all edited or co-edited by Michie. -- Dave
