A list is maybe a bit crude, but I think that there is a very rough ordering that would overlap for many observers of English-speaking graduate schools in AI, and I think that I would find it useful in knowing where to apply to see such a list. Extra amounts of usefulness would be added if such a list had little, or big, notes about things like what subareas or professors are considered strong, how much time the professors have for students, how much of a demand (or a delight) the undergraduates are, whether financial aid is tight, how big the program is (although this last item is available in the catalogs), or other useful information. I have several catalogs, but I really feel like any information I can get will be useful as there are a lot of things that are hard to tell from the catalogs. Of interest are several AI subareas, knowledge representation for one, but I am looking for a strong background in other CS areas such as theory of computation and programming languages also. Any takers? -- If you do not receive a reply from me, please resend your mail; occasionally this site's mail gets delayed. Neither representing any company nor, necessarily, myself.
