[comp.ai] Is there an AI algorithm that generates Boxes to perform induction?

jasko@charles.bu.edu (John V. Jaskolski) (03/15/91)

I seem to remember an AI algorithm that generates Boxes in feature
space which then serve the purpose of performing inductions or
deductions. Does anyone know of any such algorithm?

Thanks In Advance.

Sounds like you are talking about the PLS systems of Rendell et al
(that's Larry Rendell here at University of Illinois). I'm not sure
what you mean by "performing deductions", but, as I understand it, it
was an inductive system that generated (hyper)rectangles in feature
(hyper)space that covered the positive examples. I may be wrong, but I
think it was written up in one of the Machine Learning volumes edited
by Michalski et al.
