The manual page for the ls(1) command (from BSD 4.3) contains the following explanation of the output of the -l option: The mode printed under the -l option contains 11 characters which are interpreted as follows: the first character is ... The next 9 characters ... My question is: Where is the eleventh character ? And how do I interpret it ? Puzzled since v6, -- Dave Capshaw
