[net.unix-wizards] where is the 11th character

capshaw@milano.UUCP (08/28/86)

The manual page for the ls(1) command (from BSD 4.3) contains the
following explanation of the output of the -l option:

The mode printed under the -l option contains 11 characters
which are interpreted as follows: the first character is
     ...
     The next 9 characters ...

My question is: Where is the eleventh character ? And how do I
interpret it ?

Puzzled since v6,

The 11th character is a space, and should be interpretted as such.

Oh well, you didn't expect perfect man pages, did you?
