Thanks to all those who wrote back to me about my problem with the UNIBUS Proteon ringnet card. Following a suggestion from Barry Shein (which arrived a mere 20 minutes after my posting), I tested to see if I was experiencing a hardware problem by changing the card's node number and putting it in another vax (Dash.lcs.mit.edu) that uses the same type of card. It worked. I then got sneaky and decided to boot the new vax (Oberon) from the rk07 boot pack that worked on Dash, so that it would be a Dash clone. Still worked. I then reset the card's node number to oberon's. Still worked. I then booted oberon off of the kernel that I had originally made that caused all the problems. And the damn thing came up. I hate problems that just disappear like that. I had tried re-inserting the board into Oberon a couple of times beforehand, but it didn't work. Well, it did the third time. I guess this shows that even if Unix's autoconfig recognizes a board, the board could still not be seated properly ... Well, thanks again. Steven Augart
