[comp.ai] Want expert system shell to generate embeddable inferencing engine and rule set

[This didn't generate much on comp.ai.shells, I thought this group might have a
broader readership.]

I would be interested in recommendations for a shell that can generate a
complete subsystem for use within a larger program. The code so
generated would preferably be in an object-oriented language, but C would
be alright as well.

It should be an efficient system capabable of handling at least 100's of
rules comfortably. It will have to work with large bodies of textual
information, most commonly large indexes of information from external
data stores, so communication capability such as IP-based network
protocol interconnection may also be a factor.

Both non-commercial and commercial systems are of interest, though a
commercial system cannot have run-time royalties associated with it or
it would not be usable.

Please send information directly to me on technical aspects of such
systems and on availability. Thanks.
