[comp.ai] Access to AIEXPERT FORUM via COMPUSERVE

lukose@cm.deakin.oz.au (Dickson Lukose) (06/13/91)

Dear Colleague,

Thanks you very much to all of you who have kindly responded to my request
for information as to the access to COMPUSERVE AIEXPERT forum. From all
the responses I received, I conclude that currently there is no way to
access information from AIEXPERT without an account on COMPUSERVE.

The following abstract summarises the situation very clearly.

On CIS (as it is known), there are various forums, on of which is the AI
Expert Forum. After logging in to CIS, you type "GO AIEXPERT" at the prompt
and you are there. (You will probably be asked to enter some information to
"join" the group.) From there, follow the menus to the Libraries area, and
then to the appropriate library.

The cost is $12.50/hr at 2400-baud, $22.50/hr at 9600-baud. In addition,
you pay the commercial network its hourly fees, too. If you can connect
to CIS' network (maybe not outside the US), you pay only $.30/hr. Other
networks are more expensive.

If you use a Macintosh, I would highly recommend CompuServe Navigator. It
is a *very* nice package that lets you do most everything off-line, then
it jumps on-line to get the stuff you want. You thus only spend a few minutes
on-line. The big Mac mail-order places (MacConnection) feature a bundle
that includes Navigator and a CIS sign-up for about $50 or so.

Once again thank you very much for all the pointers.
