We're considering recoding an expert system currently implemented in ART rules into a c-based shell such as ART-IM or CLIPS. Both of these systems are very similar to ART, although there are some differences. The system makes fairly vanilla use of ART's production rules and schema mechanism. We'd like to hear from anyone who has had some experience in such a conversion. In particular, we're interested in (1) How hard was the conversion; Were there any non-obvious problems? and (2) What was the impact on size and run-time performance?
