It will be ten years ago next October when the Japanese announced their ten year Fifth Generation project, which was supposed to involve a heavy use and development of AI techniques. Can anybody out there please summarize if the project has lived up to its expectations, and what it has achieved, in any case? JCA vanadis@cs.dal.ca

The fifth generation project has developed parallel hardware for logic programming, but inadequate software for large scale AI.
