[news.misc] Why Capital Punishment should be abolished.

    Why Capital Punishment should be
abolished.

    --------------------------------

    With the death penelty issue
comming back into the news, I decided
to post an article on why I think
capital punishment should be abolished

    Please remember that my opinios,
though are not what the majority of
what America thinks, are shared with
millions of people.

    Why should Capital Punishment be
abolished?

    === ====== ======= ========== ==

o The death penelty is irreverse-
able. How can a jury , even if
anaminus, be totaly sure a man is a
killer?

    o Capital Punishment doesn't
detour murders, infact, according to a
study, murders went up 1/2 % -
although I doubt that has any thing to
to do with the newly passed laws.

o The subject of racism, I'm not
sure if this is realy happening - but
the charges some people give are kind
of complex!"80.2 % of death-sentenced
people killed whites?" But anything
that has such major conservery and, I
myself do see some forms of racism in
capital punishment, should definetly
at least be put temporarly on hold! A
study should be made. However, of
course , I think it should be completly
stoped.

o Finaly , the human side of all
of this.
       Just what gives the government
right to KILL other people? I have
seen people convicted of murdering
someone because someone murdered some-
one else!(Vidualanti..) But the
government can??? This is a cruel,
uncivilised, and primitive way of
handling a problem that solves
nothing but revenge. It is a
"lets kill'm attitude."

Now don't get me wrong, I am not
for feeling sorry for murderers and
sugesting automatic insanity charges
on all murder crimes or anything. I
thin that tougher action and more
involved study should be taken - but
not the old primitive capital
punishment. A more advanced social
action - how about being "invisable"
for life? No one will ever talk to
you or help you or even acnolige your
existance! Of course, there would be
laws againts "making someone visible".

Sound like a fantisy movie? Oh
well, guess society isn't advanced
enough to handle its social problems
(which, in case of murders , is a
SERIOUS social problem). It will be
a long time before humans act like
humans.

How about this scenario: A man drives up to the doors of a certain
department store. Several people see him jump out of his car with an automatic
weapon, rush into the store and open fire on the check stands.	The man leaves
the store and gets into his car just as the police arrive.	The police chase
him down and he is caught.	The car is his, the weapon is his, and several
witnesses had seen him commit the slaughter and can positively identify him.
He is taken into custody and he confesses to the crime and claims that he will
do it again when he is released.
I would think that in this case, the jury can be tottally sure that this man
is a ruthless killer and should be put to death.

I don't think Capital Punishment is going to convince the average killer
not to kill. I do think however, that Capital Punishment will remove a problem
that we would otherwise spend millions of dollars to support by keeping the
killer in prison for the rest of his life.

I don't know about these statistics, and I am not sure I understand what you
are trying to say, but it seems like you are trying to say that it's racist to
invoke the death penilty because just because 8 out of 10 killers kill whites.
I'm afraid I don't agree with that.

We did. We voted the congressmen and senators into office, and brought Capital
Punishment into being.	Everybody had some say in it. That is the way our
government works, remember? You have the potential to change it. That is, if
you can unite enough people that find your idea more appealing than the current
one, and get them all to vote on it.

This does sound like a fantasy movie, or a pipe dream, maybe. Unless you are
talking about institutions, If so, just because a killer is put into an
institution, doesn't mean he becomes invisible.

Maybe there is some truth to this last paragraph, but just because some people
believe that there is a possible solution,	I don't think we should spend the
massive amounts of money that we do keeping them alive until that day comes.
There are better things that we can do with that money.
