While breakfasting at Usenix, Mark Horton asked me to remove the copyrights on my articles if Stargate was all that it was there for (now that Stargate policy is changed or clarified). Currently there is a grep on the uplink that filters out any copyrighted materials since a human will have to read them and see if they can be retransmitted. Even though Stargate CAN retransmit my articles, since it is not restricting their redistribution, the simple filter WON'T retransmit them because it can't read the conditions on my copyright. Whoever ends up reading the coyrighted articles will have enough to do reading source code containing copyrights; they shouldn't have to wade through a lot of other stuff too. (Currently this "person" is impersonating Rich $alz; that is, nothing gets through :-). I think Mark's request is reasonable so I've stopped copyrighting my articles. Of course, if somebody else sets a policy of doing things with my words that I don't approve of, I will bring it back. -- {sun,ptsfa,lll-crg,ihnp4,ucbvax}!hoptoad!gnu gnu@ingres.berkeley.edu Kudos to Stargate for permitting redistribution. May the Source be with you!
