The band's name was FUNKADELIC (not "The Funkadelics"), and their leader was George Clinton. Coexisting with FUNKADELIC was another R&B band called PARLIAMENT, which essentially consisted of the same people (i.e., whoever George Clinton was playing with at the time). Later on, another "spinoff" band hit the scene called BOOTSY'S RUBBER BAND. BRB featured PARLIAMENT/ FUNKADELIC'S bass player (Bootsy Collins) as the alleged "leader", but don't be conned: BOOTSY'S RUBBER BAND was yet another incarnation of George Clinton. George Clinton hit the R&B charts last year with a #1 single called "Atomic Dog"; however, it never made it onto the lily-white AOR charts or the "pop" top-40 AM charts (or, needless to say, MTV). If you like the pre-disco R&B funk sound, FUNKADELIC is the standard by which the others are measured, although the music is sometimes a little weird and the lyrics are nearly always offensive. This discussion is a welcome change from the listing of weird album titles. ...duke!mcnc!ebs
