The next posting of the checkgroups script will be January 1 or 2. I have made yet another change, thanks to the availability of the "Supersedes" header. Two "checkgroups" skeleton scripts will be posted this time, with the second one immediately "Superseding" the first at some sites. The first version will be for all the regular groups, just like the last one I posted. The second version will be posted with an "inet" distribution, and include all the "inet" groups as well as the regular groups, as well as immediately superseding the first version. What this means is that system admins will see only one checkgroups script appear in the news.admin group (assuming both messages arrive close together). If the site is an inet site, it will have a complete "checkgroups" message for the inet groups. If it is not an inet site, the "inet" message will never reach the site and the regular script will be the one present. Of course, sites running old or unpatched news may get both messages, but the subject line and introductory text should allow them to be distinguished. I have not generated a one-line description for each inet group in the list, in part because it is more effort than I have time for, and in part because I don't know what they all are. Anyone with definitive knowledge and a one line description is welcome to send them to me for inclusion in future postings. As usual, suggestions and comments welcomed. -- Gene Spafford Dept. of Computer Sciences, Purdue University, W.
