[Is the line-eater still alive?] I got to thinking about news this morning, and I began to realize that someone should really be saving all this stuff. It will eventually have historical signifigance if nothing else. And all the useful computer hints and tips, the philosophical discussions, (and all the crap we all have to wade through :-). I know individuals are archiving some groups, just for their own purposes, but there isn't really any reason ANY of it should be lost. According to my back of the envelope calculations, all news from it's inception comes to less than 2 Gigabytes of information. Has anyone given any thought to the idea of archiving ALL news? It would all fit on VERY few optical disks, and could even be made publically available, through UUNET say. Does it all still exist somewhere? Has some already been lost? How much would it cost to gather it all up and make it available? If someone is already doing this, ignore everything I have just said. This is history in the making, so to speak. Our children and grandchildren may thank us someday. -- Use the path below and NOT brianop@salem1 or I'll never see it... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- What the eye beholds CI$: 72406.1363 And the heart covets PLINK: Brianop Let the hand boldly sieze!
